Today, I choose to live in the solution of sobriety instead of the problem of alcoholism. The condition of alcoholism is not a problem unless we feed it, and the Program empowers us with the choice not to drink by forcing us to take a thorough and honest inventory of ourselves with the purpose of deciding if continuing to drink is worth the consequences it entails. I am an alcoholic. But alcoholism is not a problem as long as I choose not to drink. And I choose not to lament that I cannot drink what some might call responsibly or moderately because, as an alcoholic, I do not have the luxury of responsible and moderate drinking. Thus, today, empowered by my Program, I can choose not to drink and, in choosing that course, I can live in the solution of being sober instead of the problem of drinking by not grappling with the fact that I no longer have the choice to drink. And our common journey continues. Step by step. - Chris M., 2013
